I grew up and went to college in mid-Michigan. (That was a while ago, but I still scream at the TV whenever a Wolverine game is on.)
After college, I moved to Alaska to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Sitka. I became a volunteer programmer at KCAW community radio and was soon hired as the Development Director. Eventually I became the Program Director.
I trained volunteer programmers and was the steward of our beloved record library (containing over 10,000 LPs of every imaginable genre). I also hosted a variety show and did an advice segment on love, fashion and grammar.
After six years in The Last Frontier, I came to New York, freelanced a bunch, and got my Masters from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. I currently work for major media outlets including Time, Inc. and WNYC Radio.
In my spare time, I bake, I blog, I plan visits to my big ol' family and I keep pretending to write a novel. I usually do all of those things wearing my beloved Bowie t-shirt.
