On the Side: August 22, 2012

I don't have tons of free time, but when I do, I tend to spend it visiting friends and working on personal projects. I visited my brilliant friend Lacy earlier this summer, when she was well into her first year as a bookstore owner and operator. While she worked one afternoon, I shot some stuff in the shop with my DSLR. Then I had her answer some interview questions, and I asked my friend Leah Paul, composer extraordinaire, to create a soundtrack. This is what we made!

Working On: August 11, 2012

A few things are cookin' at work these days. I'm editing a video that I helped shoot last week with Gillian Laub, who is a family friend of the terrific lady who runs this camp, nestled deep in the cell-phone-receptionless community of Lackawaxen, PA. The campers, kids between ages 7-12 with special needs, were wonderful.

I'm also gearing up to attend the DNC and the RNC and produce videos. I'm on a desperate hunt for Republican-friendly work wear that holds up in Tampa heat. I will certainly keep you posted.

Obsession of the Day: July 19, 2012

This summer has been full to bursting. So many things have happened. One of the best things was that I got to go to Alaska and attend Raven Radio's 30th Anniversary celebration. I don't even know what to say about it. Also, I went camping, and over the course of four days, I saw nine bears, and nine bears saw me. I'm still kind of shaken up about it, but everything turned out just fine.

Here's a view from the Raven Radio Blues Cruise. On the boat, people were groovin' and reunitin', and beyond, there was this.

I made this image my screensaver for everything, obviously.

Working On: June 2, 2012

I'm so happy that this video I made has finally posted on

At the end of April, I traveled to Joplin, Missouri to shoot some b-roll of photographer Gillian Laub, who was working on this excellent photo essay on proms in America. We figured I'd probably find another good story to shoot while I was there, and I was lucky enough to fall in with this amazing bunch of people and capture a couple of days in their lives

It was a big challenge to shoot, report and edit this solo. My colleagues Jacob Templin, Jim Fields, and Almudena Toral helped me find ways to tell the story to give it the emotional impact it deserved. I hope you like it.

Oh and, if you ever find yourself in Joplin, there are two excellent breakfast places you won't want to miss.
