In December, I visited the University of North Carolina campus to interview Dr. Kevin Guskiewicz for our latest Game Changers video.
Then, I went to see Pina.

Something amazing has happened in Sitka, Alaska, where I used to live. Some contractors (on Halloween!) found human remains beneath the historic Cable House building, where KCAW's studios are. This is spine-tingling news, because I'd always suspected that the radio station was haunted. Sure, people told me it was just the wind. But when you arrive in the dark of 4:30 a.m. to host Morning Edition and the doorknob to the locked engineering office begins to rattle as if someone is trying to escape...or when you're doing a midnight show by yourself and you hear heavy footsteps shuffling to and fro yet no one is there...I mean, come on. And maybe I encouraged some paranormally-curious volunteers to keep their antennae up for haunted incidents. Maybe I helped build up just a little bit of hype.

There's not much information yet about who this person was or whether their remains are culturally significant (especially with the Native community), but I'm excited to hear updates as the archaeolgists do their thing. And I hope that, whatever supernatural twinklings surround the Cable House, that all souls are at peace.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.valerielapinski.com/journal/2011/11/13/working-on-november-13-2011.html"><rss:title>Working On: November 13, 2011</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.valerielapinski.com/journal/2011/11/13/working-on-november-13-2011.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Working On</dc:subject>

I had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas and environs to interview the CEO of Zappos, Tony Hsieh.
